7 Creepy GTA V Urban Myths and Conspiracy Theories That Turned Out to Be True

It feels like we’ve played GTA V for over a decade (Editor’s Note: We have), but while many of us know the streets of San Andreas like the back of our hands, there’s still so much we don’t know.

For years, players have claimed to have seen all kinds of strange things: from phantom cars to creepy cryptids and even visitors from another world. Unfortunately, a lot of these GTA Mysteries and conspiracy theories have proven to be fake or just tall tales told to scare new players.

Recently one ex-Rockstar developer disappointed players by admitting that all Easter eggs around Mount Chiliad are actually there as a nice nod to fans who are convinced that there is a dark, undiscovered conspiracy at the heart of the world. GTA games.

But while Mount Chiliad may be a misguided destination, that doesn’t mean GTA V isn’t full of creepy Easter eggs to tease players that there’s more going on in San Andreas than meets the eye. So put on your tinfoil hat and watch out for black helicopters, because these are the creepiest GTA V urban myths and conspiracy theories that turned out to be true.

Zombies

Graham the zombie in GTA V

If you’ve ever driven through Vinewood, chances are you’ve seen the GTA V zombie. Don’t worry; this isn’t the start of an undead nightmare; this particular creep is just an actor named Graham promoting a movie… or is he?

You see, there’s also a Weazel News report mentioning a drug called Zombrex – an apparent reference to the anti-zombification drug from the Dead Rising Games – so maybe there’s more to this shambling corpse than meets the eye .

Road rage

An XS Sentinel from GTA V

If you fancy a leisurely drive through San Andreas, maybe avoid Downtown Los Santos unless you want to encounter “The Aggressive Driver.” This deranged driver spawns randomly (usually in a Sentinel XS) and drives aggressively and erratically, often crashing into or running over the player’s car while on foot. If you try to confront the driver, they will supposedly pull a gun on you.

Basically, they look like the Incredible Hulk. You don’t want to meet them when they’re angry, and they’re always angry, so it’s best to stay away altogether. What makes the driver so creepy is that Rockstar has never admitted whether it’s a bug or a feature. Still, they continue to survive updates, so presumably they’re meant to be there, or perhaps they’re moving too fast for Rockstar to catch them.

Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness Monster in GTA V

At one point, old Nessie headed to Glasgow airport and made a trip to the United States to visit San Andreas. Clearly she liked it because she is still around and is now called the Loch Santos Monster.

Yes, you can encounter the Loch Ness Monster in GTA V. Scotland’s most famous citizen was added to the game on December 15, 2020 during The Cayo Perico Heist. The creature is famously shy and can only be seen during the heist’s finale, and she can spawn in various locations as you escape the island. Unfortunately, if you try to approach her, she dives beneath the waves and is never seen again.

Sunken UFO

The sunken UFO in GTA V

GTA V is full of UFOs, so much so that they should drop the ‘Unidentified’ from their name and call them ‘Ubiquitous Flying Objects’ (editor’s note: you’re happy about that, aren’t you?) These visitors from a other world may have technology beyond our imagination, but apparently they’re not the best at driving.

Or one of them wasn’t, at least, because you can find a crashed alien ship under the sea. There are also several references to the crash hidden in the game, including UFO parts scattered around the map, a Weazel News report, and Omega will mention “recently crashed ship.”

If you want to find it yourself, you can find the wreck off the north coast of San Andreas, north of Procopio beach.

Bigfoot seen by a sniper in GTA V

GTA players love three things. Commit crimes, drive sensibly for 15 minutes before you get bored, and hunt for bigfoot. It seems like in every game since San Andreas there have been rumors of a strange mythical monster lurking somewhere on the map, so it’s not surprising that Rockstar decided to add him to the game (and no, we don’t mean that man in the suit).

During the Predator mission you are given a sniper rifle with a thermal scope and asked to kill the O’Neil Brothers. If you move the viewer to the bottom right corner of your screen, you’ll see the unmistakable heat signature of America’s largest cryptid. Don’t think you can make a name for yourself by killing the Bigfoot. If you try to shoot him or zoom in, he will disappear without a trace.

Infinite killer

A victim of the Infinity Killer in GTA V

San Andreas is home to several dangerous criminals, but none are as dangerous as Merle Abrahams, the Infinity Killer. This legendary serial killer terrorized the honest people of San Andreas in 1999, killing eight joggers before police caught him. Unfortunately, the police never found the bodies of his eight victims, but they could.

Just off the coast of Paleto Bay, eight bodies wrapped in plastic lie at the bottom of the ocean. Are these the unfortunate victims of the Infinity Killer? It seems likely, but there’s just one wrinkle to this theory. Infinity killed men, and the bodies in the ocean are female, so the question is: was this just a mistake on Rockstar’s part, or is there still a copycat killer on the loose?

Spirit of Mount Gordo

The ghost in GTA V

The Ghost of Mount Gordo, also known as the Ghost of Jolene Cranley-Evans, is without a doubt the most terrifying urban legend in GTA V and is a very real and terrifying phantom. The ghost – who looks like Samara from the Ring if she were having a bad hair day – can be found near the top of Mount Gordo between 11pm and 12am, near a message scrawled in blood that reads ‘Jock’.

If you do a little digging, you can figure out Jolene’s unfortunate story, but the bottom line is that she was married to Jock Cranley, who wanted to become a famous stuntman.

When Jane refused to move to Los Santos for her husband’s career, he pushed her off a cliff so he could have the freedom to pursue his dreams. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough evidence to convict Jock, and he was released, leaving poor Jolene’s tortured soul bound to the mountain where she was murdered forever.

Only time will tell if the next GTA game will help us decipher some of these sinister secrets. Speaking of which, here’s everything you need to know GTA6 and if you need some help taking over San Andreas (or just want to cause chaos), we’ve got a list of them all GTA V cheats on PlayStation.
