YouTuber Marques Brownlee apologizes after filming himself ‘driving more than 90mph in a 56mph zone’ | American news

A YouTuber has apologized after allegedly sharing footage of himself driving a car at more than 90mph in a 55mph zone. He said his actions were “absolutely inexcusable and dangerous”.

Marques Brownlee said in a post on X that a clip showed him driving “way too fast” while “test driving” a car.

The 30-year-old said he has since removed that part of the clip from a video he shared on YouTube.

However, footage shared by social media users claims the American YouTuber is accelerating in a Lamborghini.

A screen showing the car’s speed appears to show it accelerating from about 50 km/h to at least 150 km/h in about four seconds.

Reports indicate the video was shot in a 55 km per hour zone and the original clip shared by Brownlee showed him driving past a road sign warning motorists to slow down for children.

The exact location is not known. Brownlee has previously claimed on his X-feed that he is from New York City, but a number of reports have him living in New Jersey. It is also not known whether a report has been filed with the police.

In an apology shared to his X account on Tuesday evening, Brownlee said: “The last video I did something pretty stupid. You may have seen it already, but you may not, so I’ll discuss it here.

“There was an action camera video where I was testing in a car and driving way too fast.

“Absolutely inexcusable and dangerous. I have since cut it out of the video using YouTube’s editor tool. I also understand that this seems like it’s being glossed over, but I think it’s the right thing to do.

“There’s no reason to leave that clip in (there was no reason to include it in the first place) and I would never want to make it look right by leaving it in the video…I know that all will live on forever on the internet, but I think this is the best decision at this time.

“All I can do is apologize and promise I will never do something so stupid again. That is a terrible example and I am sorry.”

It comes months after Brownlee angered people who downloaded his new wallpaper app called Panels.

Those who downloaded it raised concerns about pricing and “excessive data disclosure.”

He later released a video in which he admitted it had been a “gaffe” but said he wasn’t looking for people’s data.
