Tyrrell Hatton breaks club in half as Sky Sports commentator responds to angry golfer | Golfing | Sport

Tyrrell Hatton has been criticized by Sky Sports golf commentators after another outburst in Dubai. The LIV golfer played his third shot to the par-5 14th at the season-ending DP Tour World Championships, but managed a simple approach to the left of the green.

He reacted angrily and struck the ground with his club head, breaking the short iron.

The incident was consistent with behavior during much of the previous 13 holes, during which he frequently cursed himself and the Jumeirah Golf Estates course.

And after his latest moment of volatility, iconic commentator Ewen Murray decided he had seen enough. “Oh no, no. It’s time for a change, I’m afraid,” said the Scot.

“What a terrible influence on the next generation. I’m sorry to say it, I’m his biggest supporter as a golfer. But look at this. Why? Why would you do that? We’ve all had our problems.” moments, but he has too many.

Co-commentator Paul McGinley also gave his opinion. “I completely agree with Ewen, I think we are all on the same page there. The embarrassment he has had this week about some of the things that have happened to him might force his hand and trigger change.

“Because this is a guy who has had a great run the last few weeks, remember. He won the Dunhill, came second last week (in Abi Dhabi), was strong again this week and it’s not like he’s having a bad time with his game. “

Ironically, Hatton recovered to make par and then birdied the 15th to move to nine under par and back within three of the lead. “If he thinks this is a bad time for golf, he has no idea what it really is,” McGinley added.

Hatton started the third round at eight under and finished in second place with Rory McIlroy. But his 69 on Friday was overshadowed by a meltdown on the final hole, where his seemingly perfect drive had ended in a difficult lie in the fairway due to a creek on the left.

Hatton responded by ranting about how he “despised everything” about the final hole. Caddy Hugo Dobson tried in vain to help his man maintain focus, but the outburst continued and was picked up by television cameras.

The Ryder Cup player is currently only eligible for DP World Tour events while his appeal against the fines imposed on him for competing in LIV Golf is heard. The Englishman signed with the Saudi-backed tour in January this year.
