The Rams’ mentality heading into the second half of the season

The Los Angeles Rams are at a crossroads in their season. After starting 1-4, the Rams won three games before losing at home to the Miami Dolphins.

The Rams’ underperformance on Monday Night Football was unfortunate, as it was an opportunity for the Rams to continue making progress in a potential playoff push. Fortunately for Los Angeles, there is still plenty of season left to make up ground.

Rams head coach Sean McVay believes the Rams’ mentality in the second half of the season will be crucial.

“I think there are a lot of cases where we haven’t had the continuity piece that hasn’t really applied,” McVay said. “I think you’re constantly saying, ‘Okay, maybe you had a vision of what that identity was, and now you’re constantly trying to find it.’ Even for us last year, it was an evolving thing.

“No year is ever the same. I think it’s important to be able to say, “What is that weekly rhythm that you want to achieve, and can you build on that based on the momentum that you’ve seen?” There have been instances where I can think about where that happened. “

“I think our defense is a great example of that,” McVay said. “If you guys look at it, we’re dealing with injuries, and I feel bad for these guys, but there’s a Rolodex of different moving parts that we have.” You have to be able to work through it. I’m hopeful that we can find some continuity. All we have is this game and we are guaranteed eight more chances.

For McVay, creating continuity and trust within the team is almost as important as keeping the team healthy.

“We want to be able to start identifying that,” McVay said. “If we can stay healthy, if we can get some of the same guys doing the same things, bonding with each other and then being able to do the things that you’re asking about, I think that can be reflected because repetition is the mother of learning.

“I think there is real improvement there. I’ve seen it, but you never minimize the interest of boys who can work together. That’s been a real factor that you have to acknowledge, knowing that this is something that you have to be able to work through. It’s not an excuse, but how can we put these guys in the best spots and get them up to speed as quickly as possible?”
