Repeat shoplifter faces misdemeanor charges in Stafford

Stafford, VA – A woman known for previous shoplifting incidents faced charges in connection with another attempt at a Walmart on Garrisonville Road. The sheriff’s office responded to the incident Friday around 6:26 p.m

Sergeant ML Jacobeen and Deputy S. Waheed were called to Walmart for suspected theft. Store staff reported that a woman who had previously committed violations was involved. Officer Waheed reviewed the surveillance footage while Sergeant Jacobeen searched the area.

Sergeant Jacobeen quickly found a woman matching the suspect’s description. The suspect initially denied all allegations and falsely identified herself as Hank Aaron’s daughter. She was later correctly identified as Janice Scott, 61, of Stafford.

Scott had previously been involved in two shoplifting incidents in October. On this occasion she was caught with stolen meat, cheese and crackers. She now faces three charges of shoplifting, identity theft for a second offense, providing a false identity and unlawful name change. She is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $2,000 bond.
